Rund um Tana, aber vor allem im Norden der madegassischen Hauptstadt, liegen heilige Hügel, die auf den König Andrianjaka im 17. Jahrhundert zurückgehen. Er erklärte zwölf Hügel aus historischen und politischen Gründen für heilig. Fast 200 Jahre später tat es ihm sein Nachfolger Andrianampoinimerina gleich und erklärte ebenfalls zwölf Hügel für heilig – allerdings nicht dieselben wie sein Vorfahr. So existieren heute mehr als die kosmologisch begründeten zwölf, aber der wichtigste und interessanteste ist vermutlich Ambohimanga, das seit 2001 zu den UNESCO Weltkulturerbestätten zählt.
Around Tana and especially in the north of the Malagasy capital, there are several sacred hills tracing back to King Andrianjaka in the 17th century. He declared twelve hills as sacred for historical and political reasons. Nearly 200 years later, his successor Andrianampoinimerina did the same – but with different hills.
