Lake Victoria – Der Victoriasee
Lake Victoria is the second biggest freshwater lake on the planet with a size of 68.800 km². Parts of it belong to Kenya and Tanzania, but the biggest part is Ugandan. It is not only the source of the river Nile but also a source of food and work for around 30 million people living on its shores. And it is also home to a large number of animals, like the famous shoebill hunting the Mabamba wetland 15 km west of Entebbe for small lungfish, amphibians and even young birds.
Der Victoriasee ist mit einer Größe von 68.800 km² der zweitgrößte Süßwassersee der Erde. Er gehört zu Kenia und Tansania, aber der größte Teil ist ugandisch. Er ist nicht nur Quelle des Weißen Nils, sondern auch Nahrungsquelle und Arbeitsplatz von etwa 30 Millionen Menschen, die an seinem Ufer leben. Und er ist Heimat einer gewaltigen Anzahl von Tieren, etwa des berühmten Schuhschnabel-Storchs, der im Mabamba-Sumpf 15 Kilometer westlich von Entebbe auf die Jagd nach kleinen Lungenfischen, Amphibien und sogar Jungvögeln geht.
